Wooden Gates

Wooden Gates

Including Iroko and Accoya timber — both hardwearing, low-maintenance hardwoods well suited to the UK climate.

Iroko Wood

Iroko is a dense West African hardwood, often called "African teak." It's naturally resistant to rot, insects and warping without chemical treatment, with a rich golden-brown tone that weathers to a soft silvery-grey if left unfinished — a low-maintenance option with real character.

Accoya Wood

Accoya is a sustainably-sourced softwood that's been acetylated to match the durability and stability of tropical hardwoods, backed by a 50-year above-ground durability guarantee. It resists swelling and shrinking better than most timbers and takes paint or stain beautifully, making it ideal if you want a specific finish colour.

Common Questions

Gates & automation, answered

Do I need planning permission for an automated gate?

It depends on the height, position and location of your property — for example, gates near a highway or over a certain height can require permission. We'll advise on this as part of your free site survey, before any work is agreed.

How long does gate installation take?

A straightforward single-gate residential installation is often completed within a few days, while bespoke ornate designs, long runs of railings or multi-gate commercial sites take longer. We'll give you a clear timeline as part of your quote.

Which material needs the least maintenance?

Aluminium and Accoya timber are the lowest-maintenance options — aluminium is naturally corrosion-resistant and Accoya is dimensionally stable with a 50-year durability guarantee. Metal and Iroko wood need only occasional attention, while traditional iron benefits from periodic re-coating.

Can any gate style be automated?

Yes. We design and fit the automation to suit the gate, weight and site — from sliding and swing gates to barriers and bollards — using BFT automation for reliable, long-lasting operation.

Can gates be integrated with video door entry and access control?

Yes. We regularly combine automated gates, video door entry and access control into a single, seamless system, so you can see and grant access to visitors from your smart device, wherever you are.
